I : Catalog Course Description
Introduces the basic elements of pictorial organization, and to the practice of using those elements in the production of art. 1 hour lecture and 4 hours studio per week.
II : Course Objectives

This is a course in the visual concepts and design principles that underlie the making of visual art. Whether you are engaged in the making of fine or commercial artforms, these underlying principles will give you a verbal-visual framework on which to build. Within the structure of the assignments, you are encouraged to experiment, explore, and take some risks. The emphasis on is hands-on learning in the studio.

  1. To introduce a basic understanding of the art elements and the language of two-dimensional design.
  2. To expand this understanding into use with the basic principles that govern sound design.
  3. To encourage the development of visual concepts utilizing these principles.
  4. To develop an understanding and appreciation for the relationship between form and content.
  5. To encourage an environment of experimentation and imagination.
III : Course Linkage
Linkage of course to educational program mission and at least one educational program outcome.

The mission of the AA Degree Program in Fine Arts is to provide knowledge and skills for creative expression, personal enrichment, and the foundation for a career in the Fine Arts.

Upon completion of this course, it is expected that students will have:

• developed their creative capacities.
• participated in at least one cultural or artistic activity, such as a visit to a gallery or museum or attendance at a community art lecture or event.
• developed an appreciation for the arts.
