| Presents laboratory exercises in astronomy in the tradition of the amateur astronomer. Includes observation of celestial objects as well as laboratory exercises to investigate the physical nature of astronomical objects. Instructs on the use of telescopes and the process of the scientific method. Recommended for non-science majors. |

Presents laboratory exercises in astronomy in the tradition of the amateur astronomer. Includes observation of celestial objects as well as laboratory exercises to investigate the physical nature of astronomical objects. Instructs on the use of telescopes and the process of the scientific method. In addition, there will be an introduction to the night sky using a planisphere and star charts to locate and identify stars and constellations. Recommended for non-science majors.
- Upon completion of the course, the successful student will have:
- 1) Practical knowledge of the night sky.
- 2) Gain the skill for using a planisphere and star charts to locate stars and constellations.
- 3) An understanding of the attributes of motion of the Moon and planets relative to the Earth.
- 4) A knowledge of the principles of the operation of a telescope and their use in astronomy.
