Upon successful completion of AST 109, the student will perform with a minimum accuracy of 80 percent, the following objective:

1. Perform fundamental calculations solving a broad range of astronomical problems.
2. Apply specialized vocabulary as it relates to astronomy.
3. Develop an appreciation and understanding of the historical evolution of the ancient science of astronomy.
4. Describe and characteristics of the planetary evolution of the solar system as well as characterize the physical properties and features of planets, moons, the sun as an integrated large scale planetary system.
5. Recognize extrasolar planetary bodies and extend comparative planetology to planets well beyond our solar system.
6. Identify some seasonal constellations and learn to use a telescope.
