Course Outline

I: Catalog Course Description

Topics include mastery of DC electricity, use of digital multimeters, troubleshooting electrical problems in starting, charging and accessory systems. Prepares students for ASE certification.
Note: Non-transferable for a NSHE baccalaureate degree. Non-applicable towards an AA or AS Degree.

II: Course Objectives

Present the principles and theory of automotive electricity.

Provide information on safety, use of manuals, hand tools and test instruments.

Introduce different electrical systems and accessories.

III: Course Linkage

Linkage of course to educational program mission and at least one educational program outcome.

This is a required course in the Associate of Applied Science Automotive Mechanics Program and the Automotive Mechanics Certificate of Achievement.

The mission of the Associate of Applied Science degree in Automotive Mechanics is to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the current automotive environment.

This course addresses the following AAS degree student learning outcomes:

Upon completion of this course students are expected to:

• Understand the General Automotive Mechanics subject matter.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of current practices in the automotive field.
