I: Catalog Course Description

Provides students with intense laboratory exercises about anatomy and physiology with related, illustrative pathology and microbiology.

II: Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of BIOL 200/204, Elements of Human Anatomy and Physiology, a student will have a basic (one semester, non-lab-based course) knowledge of the human integumentary, muscular, skeletal, nervous, endocrine, circulatory, pulmonary, digestive, urinary, immune, and reproductive systems, and their applications to human health, pathology and some fundamental applied microbiology (to each organ system).

General Education Mission: BIOL 200/204 is NOT a general education course. C.P. Surgical Technology (SRGT) Program Mission: BIOL 204 is a required course for the C.P. SRGT program and satisfies the program mission that students "… will benefit from "hands-on" laboratory experience within their major field…" of study. C.P. SRGT Program Student Learning Outcome: Students who successfully complete BIOL 204 will satisfy one C.P. program outcome: students will demonstrate that they know the subject matter appropriate to the emphasis of the certificate. BIOL 200 does not fulfill any specific AA, AS or AGS degree program at WNC. General Education Student Learning Outcome: Students who successfully complete BIOL 200/204 satisfy the general education learning outcome of understanding the role of science and technology [in health care] in the modern world.
