I: Catalog Course Description

Provides an introduction to Greek, Roman and Judeo-Christian culture through the Middle Ages.

II: Course Objectives

  • Display a mastery of factual and conceptual knowledge of the major cultural periods of the European world from the beginnings of civilization in the riverine civilizations to the Greco-Roman and Medieval periods.
  • Develop an appreciation of cultural diversity through an examination of cultural interaction and change in Europe
  • Examine culture change through a study of primary sources reflecting the literary, political, and intellectual achievements of European society.
  • Engage in critical thinking through analysis of literature and other historical/cultural documents.
