I : Catalog Course Description
Surveys the adjudicatory process, adult and juvenile corrections functions within the criminal justice system.
II : Course Objectives
  • Identify the court system, both state and federal
  • Assess pretrial activities
  • Analyze the Grand Jury System
  • Define courtroom "actors" and their functions
  • Describe the different types of witnesses
  • Analyze the theories of sentencing
  • Assess victim impact statements and their relevance to sentencing
  • Separate probation and parole
  • Identify the types of punishments, both historically and modern day
  • Distinguish differences between jails and prisons
  • Analyze the main court decisions concerning juveniles
  • Assess today's juvenile process
