| Surveys the probation and parole system of the U.S. through its evolution to the present. Shows different systems within the U.S. and focuses on executive clemency, parole, rights of prisoners, probationers and parolees, and strategies for treatment. |

- Define the classical school of thought about probation and parole
- Define the positive school of thought about probation and parole
- Defend the need of probation and parole
- Analyze the court system: Federal and State
- Summarize the history of parole and probation
- Summarize the history of juvenile court
- Explain the juvenile philosophy of probation
- Compare the philosophy of the Juvenile Justice system to the positive school of thought
- Compare juvenile judges to other types of judges
- Contrast significant terms used in Juvenile Justice to those used within the adult system
- Assess the need for pre-sentence investigations
- Determine records necessary for the pre-sentence investigation
- Determine the granting of probation and parole
- Analyze violations of probation revocation and parole revocation
- Discuss legal decisions affecting probation and parole
