I : Catalog Course Description
Surveys and evaluates police programs designed to prevent juvenile delinquency. Covers techniques of enforcement related to control of delinquency, investigation procedures in individual delinquency cases, and methods of referral to related agencies.
II : Course Objectives
  • Identify the laws of delinquency
  • Associate juvenile misbehavior and official delinquency
  • Define official delinquency
  • Analyze victimization surveys
  • Categorize social class, race, and delinquency
  • Locate delinquency patterns and delinquent careers
  • Define status offenses
  • Discuss violent offenders, loners, groups, and gangs
  • Summarize explanations, theories, and research
  • Analyze the social structural approaches
  • Evaluate the social control perspective
  • Define middle-class and female delinquency
  • Identify cultural conflict theories of delinquency
  • Assess social learning theories
  • Organize an overview of the juvenile justice system
  • Define the contemporary juvenile court
  • Defend the procedural justice for juveniles
  • Follow a case through the juvenile justice process
  • Defend the correctional processing and correctional treatment for juveniles
  • Analyze correctional programs for juveniles and the results
