| Explores the intricacies of investigating suspected homicidal, suicidal or accidental death, sudden unexpected natural deaths, deaths of concern of public health, and other matters coming under the jurisdiction of the coroner. Students may be required to witness and/or participate in a forensic autopsy. |
| II : Course Objectives |
- Review the laws under the NRS for coroners
- Discuss what constitutes an accidental death
- Assess homicide deaths
- Discuss SIDS deaths
- Analyze what constitutes a public health risk death and the coroner's role in the investigation
- Describe the chain of custody of a body when it becomes under the coroner's care
- Categorize the types of deaths which the coroner handles
- Determine what makes a coroner's case
- Discuss coroner liability
- Analyze a sudden unexpected natural death
