| Provides parents and teachers various formal and informal methods to enhance their observation and assessment skills. Discussion includes methods for use with developmentally delayed children. |
| II : Course Objectives |
Upon completion of this course, student will be able to:
- Record observed behavior objectively.
- Observe children without disrupting the program or becoming involved in it.
- Demonstrate the ability to carry out various types of observations.
- Demonstrate skill at interpreting information obtained from observations.
- Recognize milestones of typical development.
- Recognize warning signs of possible developmental delay.
- Identify agencies who can assist with children with special needs.
- Assist parent in communicating about their children with government and other community agencies.
- Develop strategies to link home and child-care programs.

This course meets one of the requirements for the A.A.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education and the Certificate of Achievement. Students will know the subject matter appropriate to Early Childhood Education, be aware of community child and family service agencies at the local, state and federal level. Students will also develop an appreciation of advocating for child and family related issues at the community and legislative level.
