Prerequisites current EMT-B certification. Current CPR certification and required immunizations and tests, health insurance, and background check. See Nursing and Allied Health website for further information.
Transfer Information Courses with a 'B' Designator after the number: This course may apply toward a WNC degree or certificate program depending on the degree chosen and other courses completed. It may not transfer or apply to programs at four-year universities within Nevada (UNR, UNLV). In some cases, this course may transfer and apply to programs at two and four year colleges within Nevada and may transfer to out of state schools. I : Catalog Course Description
Prepares the experienced EMT with more advanced skills in patient assessment and intervention. Emphasizes physician medical control communication; use of intravenous therapy for fluid resuscitation or medication administration; advanced airway intervention and ventilatory management; and administration of specific medications. Upon successful completion the student is eligible to sit for the National Registry Exam.
II : Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Perform procedures and skills safely and effectively at the level of the Enhanced EMT.
  • Recognize the nature and severity of a patient's condition in order to provide care at the Enhanced EMT level.
  • Administer necessary care based on findings, including the need for advanced level care and/or transportation to an appropriate medical facility, if required.
  • Properly communicate and document incidents.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ethical and legal boundaries of the EMS Enhanced scope of practice.
  • Be eligible to sit for the National Registry Examination for EMS Enhanced.
