| Offers a beginning writers' workshop in poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. |
| II : Course Objectives |
Upon completion of this course the students should be able to:
- Gain factual knowledge (terminology, methods, definitions)
- Learn fundamental principles (the relationship between the writer and his material and between the writer and reader; understanding the creative process, experimenting with and applying techniques of imagery, voice, character, setting, story, development, and revision)
- Develop specific skills (how to discover a story or poem idea and shape it into a work of art)
- Develop creative capacities (writing, inventing, designing literary structures)
- Gain a broader understanding and appreciation of intellectual/cultural activity (such as appreciating the craftsmanship of well-written fiction and poetry)
- Acquire an interest in learning more by asking questions and seeking answers to support life-long learning and to nurture a passion for writing
