Offers the opportunity to explore the fast growing, specialty field of GIS while receiving academic units and valuable work experience. Students work in offices: federal, state, local government, private firms, conservation groups and other organizations where GIS experience is valuable and opportunity is available. Students develop communication skills by interacting with a variety of professionals, and learn cooperative problem solving.
Upon course completion, the student will acquire an understanding of:
•Working in professional GIS environment
•Different applications of a GIS
•Industry approaches to GIS problem solving
•The concept of spatial association
Linkage of course to educational program mission and at least one educational program outcome.
•Provide employment-related knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the GIS field
•Meet educational criteria for employment.
•Prepare the student for possible transfer to other college or universities to meet higher educational and professional goals.
