Course Outline

I: Catalog Course Description

Teaches color theories, color technologies and the application of color in art and design. Intermediate two-dimensional design problems focus on the compositional, optical and psychological aspects of visual communications.

II: Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will acquire an understanding of the following:

• How color relates to the basic principles and elements of design.
• An awareness and practical experience of the use of color and color theories, with emphasis on solving specific visual problems.
• The various types of compositions, and how color can be applied to compositions in solving visual problems.
• The various color theories, models and technologies available.
• An expanded use of the design process in the development of ideas from concept to completion.
• The application of finished concepts into the electronic environment when required.
• Exposure to and an expansion of the use and function of various media and techniques.
• Expansion of the visual language and awareness of color all around us.
• The value of critiques and the ability to work within the critique process, both individually and in group situations.
• The use of the tools, supplies and techniques necessary to execute and present work in a professional manner.
• Continue working on computer skills for digital photography and scanning.
• Study contemporary work being done in digital photography.
