I: Catalog Course Description

Continues GRC 144 with an emphasis on advanced desktop publishing procedures.

Note: Non-transferable for an NSHE baccalaureate degree. Non-applicable towards an AA or AS Degree.

II: Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course, students will acquire an understanding of the following:

  • Type history
  • Type anatomy
  • Type identification and classification
  • Font families, sizing and styles
  • Selection of appropriate type faces based on project requirements
  • Manuscript preparation and typesetting conventions (quote marks, spacing, punctuation, tabulation).
  • Page layout and design
  • Proofreading
  • Printing (preparation for outside service bureaus, print shops, etc.)

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Graphic Communications will provide employment-related knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the graphic communications field. The degree will meet educational criteria for employment and prepare the student for possible transfer to other colleges and universities to meet higher educational and professional goals.
