| Studies Nevada's history from prehistoric times to the present. The course will examine the early mining and cattle frontiers, the development of towns and the advent of industrialization as well as the 20th century problems of water, energy, and growth. |
| II : Course Objectives |

- Gain a greater appreciation and understanding of Nevada's unusual history and the impact of a desert climate on that history.
- Be able to recognize and appreciate the role of Native Americans in Nevada both before and after the arrival of Euro-Americans.
- Understand the conditions and challenges that hampered and delayed Euro-American settlement in Nevada.
- Understand the importance of mining in the overall settlement and growth of the state.
- Be able to recognize the need for alternative economic bases and what those bases have been and are today.
- Develop a basic understanding of the Nevada Constitution, and understand the relationship between the federal government and Nevada.
- Develop a broad view of what Nevada needs to do to survive in a world where gaming is much more commonplace.
- Explore in depth the historical background and possible solutions for some of the issues facing Nevada today.
