Upon completion of course, students are expected to know the following:

• Develope a working knowledge of the "core concepts" that are common to all health care occupations
• • Practice "thinking like a health care worker." This includes assessing a situation, considering alternatives, choosing an appropriate alternative, evaluating the results, and revising as needed. In our rapidly changing health care environment, the health care worker must be able to apply theory rather than simply memorize facts.
• • Learn to base care on the needs of the individual patient by focusing on the many factors and life experiences that may influence the patient's perceptions and needs.
• • Apply the concepts of healthful living to one's own life by taking responsibility for actions and behaviors and understanding the consequences.
• • Become a valued employee by maintaining a level of professionalism, seeking lifelong learning activities, controlling costs in the health care environment, working on performance improvement, and focusing on customer satisfaction.
