Introduces Health Information Management procedures including professional ethics and processes to assure quality health care through quality information.
II : Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to know the following:

  • Apply health information management concepts to health care settings.
  • Compare and contrast the characteristics of health care delivery and settings in the United States.
  • Describe career opportunities for health information management professionals.
  • Differentiate among types of patient records, including the documentation issues associated with each.
  • Select a numbering and filing system that is appropriate for a health care setting.
  • Implement record storage and circulation methods that are appropriate for a health care setting.
  • Use indexes and registers for health data collection.
  • Apply legal aspects of health information management.
  • Provide an overview of coding and reimbursement issues in the context of health information management.
