I : Catalog Course Description
Teaches practical experience in the acute care setting performing Health Information Departmental duties. Grades assigned on a pass/fail basis.
II : Course Objectives

Through this course, students will complete documents, reports, and presentations for two medical clinics and a hospital. Cascade View Pediatrics is a full-service pediatric clinic that provides comprehensive primary pediatric care to infants, children, and adolescents. North Shore Medical Clinic is an internal medicine clinic, and the healthcare providers in this clinic specialize in a number of fields including internal medicine, family practice, cardiology, and dermatology. Columbia River General Hospital is an independent , not-for-profit hospital providing high-quality comprehensive care.

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to know the following. Students will create a series of projects for the above stated clinics and hospital including:

  • Producing an x-ray report
  • Creating and maintaining medical records and charts
  • Editing and formatting informative documents for patients about appointment scheduling, disease prevention, disease prevention, and education opportunities
  • Preparing envelope mailing labels and documents for mailings to patient lists
  • Creating patient questionnaires and forms for gathering patient information
  • Creating a report calculating the average standard cost for cardiac surgery patient stays
  • Preparing purchase orders and statistic calculations for costs of exam room supplies
  • Preparing invoices for medical services
  • Preparing inventory reports
  • Creating a lab requisitions billing report
  • Creating a radiology requisition form
  • Creating a bypass surgery report
  • Creating a dermatology patient tracking worksheet
  • Preparing cardiac nurse call lists
  • Preparing revenue summary reports
  • Creating PowerPoint presentations to inform patients about clinic and hospital services, cholesterol, fibromyalgia, sickle cell anemia, and chicken pox
