Prerequisites LAW 101 or consent of the program coordinator

I : Catalog Course Description
Introduces the legal field of torts. Intentional torts, negligence, strict liability, product liability, defenses, privileges and immunities will be covered.
II : Course Objectives
  1. Gain factual knowledge about the torts field;
  2. Students will enhance their communication skills through participation in class discussions, oral presentations, and written projects;
  3. Students will improve their critical thinking skills through basic legal analysis of case law and statutes.
III : Course Linkage
Linkage of course to educational program mission and at least one educational program outcome.

Torts is a required course in the Paralegal Program.

The AAS Mission is to provide the academic knowledge and skill training necessary for employment as a paralegal.

This course addresses the following four AAS degree student learning outcomes:

Students are expected to demonstrate that they -

1. know the basic principles of tort law;

2.
a.analyze and interpret case law and statutes and regulations;
b.locate newly decided cases and recent trends in tort law;

3. appreciate the importance of ethics in tort law.
