| Focuses on the development of concise legal writing. Students will analyze and brief cases, as well as draft an interoffice memorandum. |

- Gain factual knowledge concerning the mechanics of legal writing.
- Students will enhance their communication skills through participation in written projects;
- Students will improve their critical thinking skills by developing sound writing strategies;

Legal Writing is a required course for the AAS Paralegal/Law Program.
The AAS Mission is to provide the academic knowledge and skill training necessary for employment as a legal assistant.
This course addresses the following five AAS degree student learning outcomes:
Students are expected to:
1. know the basic mechanics of legal writing;
2.
a. analyze and interpret case law, statutes, and regulations;
b. locate newly decided case law, newly enacted/amended statutes and regulations;
c. understand the importance of editing in legal writing.
3. appreciate the role of legal assistants in drafting legal documents; and the importance of ethics in legal writing. |
