I : Catalog Course Description
Reviews basic mathematics with emphasis on those skills that apply to calculating drug dosages. Includes fractions, decimals, proportions, percents, English, apothecary and metric systems of measurements.
II : Course Objectives

Reviews basic mathematics with emphasis on those skills that apply to calculating drug dosages. Includes fractions, decimals, proportions, percents, English, apothecary and metric systems of measurements.

  • Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to do the following:
  • 1. read and write Roman numerals
  • 2. multiply and divide fractions and decimals
  • 3. change a fraction to a decimal, and a decimal to a fraction
  • 4. solve proportions
  • 5. convert units within the metric system
  • 6. convert between the metric, apothecary, and household systems of measurement
  • 7. compute oral dosages of drugs using D/H x Q
  • 8. compute the dosage of drugs by injection using D/H x Q
  • 9. use the proportion method to solve dosage problems
  • 10. compute pediatric dosages
  • 11. calculate intravenous solutions
