2007-2008 | I : Catalog Course Description |
| Covers fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, measurement, geometry, and briefly, the fundamentals of algebra and right triangle trigonometry. |
| II : Course Objectives |
Covers fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, measurement, geometry, and briefly, the fundamentals of algebra, and right triangle trigonometry.
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to do the following:
- add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and decimals, with applications to drawings, using a calculator.
- calculate areas and volumes of common geometric figures.
- solve proportions.
- solve percent problems.
- add, subtract, multiply, and divide signed numbers and solve simple linear equations.
- work with angles and know the geometric principles for triangles and other common polygons, including the Pythagorean theorem.
- compute arc length and angles of circles.
- calculate angles and sides of right triangles using trigonometry.
- apply right triangle trigonometry to solving simple and complex practical machine problems.
If time permits, also
- use the laws of sines and cosines to solve practical machine problems.
If time permits, also
- determine the hole locations (x, y) of two dimensional part drawings using absolute positioning.

| III : Course Linkage |
| Linkage of course to educational program mission and at least one educational program outcome. |
General Education Mission: Math 110B satisfies the following student learning outcomes of General Education.
1) can use appropriate college-level mathematical skills.
2) have problem solving, creative and critical thinking skills.
This course addresses two of the bullets under the primary goal of the college mission statement:
1) it provides instruction that contributes to a student's abilities to think critically and solve problems; to reason mathematically and apply computational skills;
2) it is tailored to meet the mathematical needs of students in machining or construction or other related fields, so that they will acquire the mathematical knowledge and skills they need to be successful in their professional lives and advance in their careers.
Program Mission for AGS degree: know the subject matter appropriate to their fields of study. |
