Prerequisites MATH 096 or 097 or three units of high school mathematics at the level of algebra and above

Topics include probability, statistics, business, finance and consumer mathematics. Course is broad in scope and emphasizes applications.
II : Course Objectives

This course is broad in scope and emphasizes applications. Topics will include probability, statistics, business, finance and consumer mathematics.

Areas 1 and 2 should make up approximately 1/2 to 2/3 of the semester.

  2. 2. Business, finance and consumer mathematics

The remaining 1/3 to 1/2 of the semester should consist of applications from one or more of the following areas:

  1. 3. Logic and sets
  2. 4. Sciences
  3. 5. Geometry
  4. 6. Trigonometry
III : Course Linkage
Linkage of course to educational program mission and at least one educational program outcome.

General Education Mission: This course addresses the fourth bullet under goal 1 in the college mission, "Provide instruction that contributes to a student's...abilities to...think critically and solve problems; to reason mathematically and apply computational skills."

Math 120 satisfies the general education requirement for any degree or certificate and
addresses the mission of and the following student learning outcomes of General Education.

1) can use appropriate college-level mathematical skills.

2) have problem solving, creative and critical thinking skills.

Program Mission for AA/AS degree: Math 120 addresses the missions of and the following student learning outcomes of the A.A, A.S. degrees.

1) know the subject matter appropriate to the emphasis of the degree.

2) can succeed at their transfer institutions.

Program Mission for AGS degree: Math 120 addresses the missions of and the following student learning outcomes of the AGS degree.

1) know the subject matter appropriate to their fields of study.
