| II : Course Objectives |
Introduces elementary problem solving with emphasis on the nature of numbers and the structure of the real number system. Designed for students seeking a teaching certificate in elementary education.
- Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to do the following:
- 1. Perform and understand the four basic operations, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division on integers, fractions and decimals.
- 2. Use a variety of problem solving techniques to solve application problems.
- 3. Solve problems involving set operations and their properties.
- 4. Solve problems involving percent.
- 5. Solve logic problems.
- 6. Apply estimation techniques.
- Some of the following optional objectives may also be included:
- 7. Convert between base 10 and other number bases.
- 8. Compute compound interest.
- 9. Solve problems involving irrational numbers.
