| II : Course Objectives |
Presents elementary problem solving with emphasis on patterns and geometric relationships. Designed for students seeking a teaching certificate in elementary education.
- Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to do the following:
- 1. Compute probability, odds and expected value.
- 2. Apply permutations and combinations to probability problems.
- 3. Compute mean, median, mode, range and standard deviation for a data set.
- 4. Construct and interpret bar graphs, circle graphs and line graphs.
- 5. Identify and solve problems involving polygons, circles and angles.
- 6. Recognize similar and congruent triangles.
- 7. Find area, volume and surface area.
- 8. Perform rotations, translations and dilations on figures in the plane.
Some of the following optional objections may also be included:
- 9. Solve basic triangle problems involving trigonometry.
- 10. Solve systems of linear equations.
- 11. Create tessellations of the plane.
