Programs of Study This course can be found in the following programs of study:
I : Catalog Course Description
Provides a third course in algebra. Topics include: polynomial, rational and radical equations; absolute value and quadratic inequalities; relations and functions; linear, quadratic, polynomial exponential and logarithmic functions, their graphs and applications; and systems of equations.
II : Course Objectives

This is a third course in algebra. Topics include polynomial, rational and radical equations; absolute value and quadratic inequalities; relations and functions; linear, quadratic, polynomial, exponential and logarithmic functions, their graphs and applications; systems of equations.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. solve polynomial, radical and rational equations.
  2. solve absolute value and quadratic inequalities.
  3. identify functions and find inverse functions.
  4. graph, find slopes and equations of linear functions and use them in models.
  5. sketch the graphs of basic functions and transformations of them.
  6. graph polynomial, exponential and logarithmic functions and use them in models.
  7. solve systems of equations and inequalities (not necessarily linear).

Some of the following optional objectives should also be included:

  1. add, subtract, and multiply matrices.

Some of the following optional objectives should also be included:

  1. use matrices to solve systems of linear equations.

Some of the following optional objectives should also be included:

  1. find equations or graphs of conic sections.

Some of the following optional objectives should also be included:

  1. complete proofs using mathematical induction.
