| Provides the knowledge necessary to buy merchandise profitably, with mastery of the role of the buyer in relation to other store personnel. This course provides skills in planning and figuring markups and expense control. |
| II : Course Objectives |
- Review marketing strategies that apply to merchandising.
- Discuss the related problems and opportunities associated with merchandising.
- Review the process of developing merchandising objectives and strategies.
- Review the importance of a unified communication effort with the sales force to allow one marketing mix tool to reinforce the other.
- Describe how a retailer selects proper merchandise sources.
- Describe what is involved in the vendor-buyer negotiations process and what terms of the contract can be negotiated.
- Discuss the various methods of handling merchandise once it is received in the store.
- Explain methods of dollar merchandise planning used to determine the proper inventory stock levels needed.
- Explain the methods of determining cost of goods and merchandising pricing including markups, markdowns, profit and loss, and cost of goods sold.
