I : Catalog Course Description
Offers an introductory class to provide a basic understanding of computer numerical control. The student is introduced to the axis systems, absolute and incremental programming, tool offsets, controller operation, and fixture offsets. To better understand CNC programming process, CNC II is recommended as a follow-up. Includes 3 hours lecture, 3 hours lab per week.
II : Course Objectives

After successful completion of this course, the student will have the basic understanding and skills to read and write a Computer Numerical Control program using the G and M codes used to make up the program language. To upload and download programs, edit programs in the CNC controller, setup and operate CNC machinery, in the WNC Machine Shop.

III : Course Linkage
Linkage of course to educational program mission and at least one educational program outcome.

This course may be chosen to fulfill a Degree Requirement for the Machine Tool Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree and Certificate of Achievement.

The mission of the Associate of Applied science Degree and Certificate of Achievement is to provide employment-related knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in a chosen field of study.

Upon completion of this course, students are expected:

A. know safety and etiquette used a Machine Shop environment.
B. perform various types of machining operations.
C. each student will progress along their personal goals, whether they are for personal interest of professional development.
