Programs of Study This course can be found in the following programs of study:
I : Catalog Course Description
Introduces the correct and pleasing use of the singing voice through a well balanced and coordinated study of vocal literature and exercises. Class may be repeated for a total of nine credits. Fee covers cost of 14 half-hour private lessons.
II : Course Objectives

By the completion of the class, the students should, with 75% accuracy:

  • Breathe correctly
  • Sing using chest, mix, and head voice
  • Pronounce consonants and vowels correctly
  • Move through the passagio from chest to mix and mix to head
  • Vary vibrato between operatic and musical theatre styles
  • Use correct posture for singing
  • Identify muscles used for support
III : Course Linkage
Linkage of course to educational program mission and at least one educational program outcome.

Students should:
1. Know the subject matter appropriate to the musical theater degree.
2. Succeed at transfer institutions
3. Understand the importance of cultural traditions, diversity, and ethics in the modern world.
4. Have an understanding of fine arts or performing arts.
