| Provides opportunities for students to utilize knowledge from the sciences, humanities and nursing to deliver safe, competent care to selected patients across the lifespan experiencing acute and chronic alterations in health. The bio/psycho/psycho/cultural and spiritual domains are assessed to prioritize and implement nursing interventions designed to meet the health care needs of patients. Concepts of priority setting, nursing process, holistic care, patient education and discharge planning are integrated into the course. |
| II : Course Objectives |
Upon successful completion of NURS 167 the student will be able to:
- Use effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills when proving care for patients and working with family members and the health care team.
- Apply ethical and legal concepts to the care of patients in acute care settings.
- Demonstrate the role of the nurse as provider and manager of care to patients experiencing commonly occurring acute and chronic disruptions in health.
- Demonstrate development of critical thinking skills through the use of reflective thinking, journaling, and problem solving through the nursing process.
- Develop organization and independence in the performance of nursing skills for two patients by the end of the medical/surgical rotation.
