| Requires students to apply the nursing process in the provision of care to high-risk maternal/newborn populations and women experiencing gynecological dysfunction. Students address bio/psycho/social/cultural and spiritual needs of patients in the acute care and community setting. Emphasis also is placed on promotion and maintenance of health, caring, communication, documentation, and teaching/learning. |
| II : Course Objectives |
Upon successful completion of NURS 267, the student will be able to:
- Utilize the nursing process in the care of high-risk mothers, women, infants, and their families experiencing disruptions in bio/psycho/social/cultural and spiritual needs.
- Display accountable, safe and caring professional nursing behaviours in the provision of care for pediatric populations.
- Implement the nurse's role in a variety of community settings including community resource referral.
- Utilize therapeutic communication techniques that facilitate parent/child attachment while providing care to high-risk maternal/child patients and families.
- Create teaching plans, including nutrition education for high-risk childbearing patients.
- Provide culturally sensitive care to women and families.
- Appropriately prioritize care for infants and children.
- Practice within the ethical and legal parameters of the profession.
- Document and communicate accurate information about high-risk maternal/child patients and their families.
- Evaluate self-learning needs before, during, and after learning experiences in acute care and community settings.
