Upon successful conclusion of NURS 277 the student will be able to:

1. Apply knowledge derived from the bio/psycho/social sciences, humanities, and nursing to achieve deliberative and competent decision-making that is grounded in evidence based practice to achieve best practice outcomes for patients with multisystem disruptions.
2. Collaborate with patients, families and health care personnel to achieve positive patient outcomes.
3. Utilize information literacy skills to integrate research findings that guide (or lead to) best practice decisions.
4. Utilize the nursing process to provide safe, effective care that reflects the ethical values of nursing within professional practice standards and the legal parameters of the profession.
5. Utilize therapeutic communications strategies used to communicate with patients and their families.
6. Evaluate verbal, non-verbal communication strategies used to communicate with patients and their families.
7. Evaluate and modify therapeutic communications used to implement the nursing process in client care.
8. Provide and manage care to patients from culturally diverse backgrounds experiencing complex multi system disruptions through the efficient and effective use of human, physical, financial and technical resources to meet patient needs.
9. Demonstrate accountability (professionalism) through identification of self-learning needs and continued professional development.
10. Implement a plan of care for patients with multi-system dysfunctions, including referral to community resources.
11. Implement a health-teaching plan for selected acutely ill adults and families with complex multi-system alterations in health.
12. Perform complex nursing interventions to meet the physiologic, psycho/social/spiritual/cultural needs of patients in acute care settings.
13. Analyze legal and ethical implications for persons experiencing multi-system dysfunction.
14. Prioritize care for two or more patients in the acute care setting that evidences effective clinical decision making.
15. Apply critical thinking to provide cost effective, quality care for patients and their families experiencing multi-system disruptions.
16. Select learning experiences which contribute to continued growth and professional development.
17. Analyze multiple EKG rhythm strips in laboratory practice, simulation, and patient care opportunities.
