I : Catalog Course Description
Acquaints students with real estate math problems and develops some skills in the use of hand-held calculators to solve such problems. Includes review of basic arithmetic principles, percent, mortgage math, appraisal and depreciation problems, proration, escrow problems pertaining to closing costs, plus brief introduction to land survey problems and calculations of area.
II : Course Objectives

This course acquaints students with real estate math problems and develops some skills in the use of hand-held calculators to solve such problems. Includes review of basic arithmetic principles, percent, mortgage math, appraisal and depreciation problems, proration, escrow problems pertaining to closing costs, plus brief introduction to land survey problems and calculations of area.

  1. Demonstrate basic computational skills including basic arithmetic, fractions, and decimal numbers.
  2. Demonstrate the computational skill applying percents (base, rate, and portion formula), simple, compound, and add-on interest.
  3. Demonstrate ability to compute monthly payments on amortized loans.
  4. Calculate the costs involved in obtaining either a fixed or variable rate mortgage loan.
  5. Compute the measurements of various geometric forms used in real estate land descriptions.
  6. Compute appraisal value using the three traditional methods.
  7. Demonstrate the ability to operate the hand-held electronic calculator effectively and master the numerous special functions it offers.

RE 102B--Real Estate Mathematics--meets a General Education requirement of the following degrees: Associate of Applied Science, Associate of General Studies
