Course Outline

I: Catalog Course Description

Offers hands-on course designed for the senior student who has little or no experience with PC's. Explains PC hardware and software, basic terminology, instructs how to wisely purchase a personal computer for present and future needs and advises how to set up a home computing work area. Student received hands-on instruction in the basic use of word processing, learning to compose, format, edit, save and print letters and documents.

Note: Non-transferable for an NSHE baccalaureate degree. Non-applicable towards an AA or AS Degree.

II: Course Objectives

Hands-on course is designed for the senior student who has little or no experience with PC's. Explains PC hardware and software, basic terminology, instructs how to wisely purchase a personal computer for present and future needs and advises how to set up a home computing work area. Student received hands-on instruction in the basic use of word processing, learning to compose, format, edit, save and print letters and documents.

  • • Define basic terminology, explain the general uses of computers in today's society, and explore computer functions.
  • • Explore hard disk and other storage media and devices.
  • • Perform various computer software tasks such as designing basic letters, envelopes, and graphic design.
  • • Work with computer files by formatting, saving, editing, and performing file management.
  • • Understand the process of organizing files and drives.
