Prerequisites SOC 101 or consent of instructor

I : Catalog Course Description
Acquaints students with selected social problems, their causes and possible solutions.
II : Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Gain factual sociological data about topical social problem.
  2. Learn causal factors of specific problems.
  3. Learn various solutions proposed to address problems.
III : Course Linkage
Linkage of course to educational program mission and at least one educational program outcome.

Students will:

1. have college-level skills in reading, writing, and oral communication appropriate to their degree and/or emphasis.

2. have problem solving, creative, and critical thinking skills.

3. have effective and efficient learning skills, including the location and evaluation of information.

4. understand and apply social science principles, including an appreciation of participation in civic affairs.

5. understand the importance of cultural traditions, diversity, and ethics in the modern world.
