| Introduces the backstage world of the theatre by the study of lighting and sound systems and of technical stage riggings. Students will gain practical experience by serving as the crew for a college theatrical production. |
| II : Course Objectives |
By the completion of the class, the students should be able to, with an accuracy of 75%:
- Explain the theory of audio amplification and be able to connect audio components.
- Identify the various types of lights used in theatre, explain their differences in construction and in function, and be able to hang and focus them.
- Describe various types of theatrical fabrication, including parallels, forms and thermoplastic and should be able to build basic set pieces, such as platforms and flats.
- Describe colors, in reference to hues, values, chroma, additive and subtractive mixing.
- Identify a variety of set painting and texturing techniqes and theatrical media for painting.
- Describe the operating of different fly systems, including hemp and counterweight.
- Understand the principles of electricity.
- Be able to tie five different rigging knots.
- Know how to draw front elevations and floor plans of a theatrical set design.
