WNC'S NEVADA TRAFFIC SAFETY SCHOOL CAN HELP!
Western Nevada College offers a Traffic Safety School, providing experience in traffic safety and driver improvement. Its aim is to reach people in the community who need to attend a course "close to home". Curriculum includes five to eight hours of interesting and motivational presentations, which are designed to help participants develop and maintain safe driving habits now and for the future.
WHY ATTEND A TRAFFIC SAFETY SCHOOL?
Under Nevada law (NAC 483.708-795) a person may attend one traffic safety school for credit during a 12-month period. The course is licensed by the Department of Motor Vehicles & Public Safety. Successful completion of the course allows the driver to be eligible for a reduction of up to three demerit points against his/her driving record. The DMV can suspend a person's driving privileges for six to 12 months if 12 demerit points are accumulated during a 12-month period!
SOME COURTS OFFER SPECIAL OPTIONS
An offer to reduce a person's hazardous traffic violation to a non-hazardous citation is part of some court option programs. This offer is based upon showing the court proof of successful completion of a licensed traffic safety school course. Fines are also sometimes reduced in the amount equal to the cost of the traffic safety course. Additionally, the court's report to DMV does not result in added demerit points to a driving record. Participants need to complete the traffic course prior to their court date and provide the court a copy of the completion certificate. This program can vary from one court to the next. Non-court/DMV referrals and interested citizens are also welcome to enroll in the school as part of a community education program.
