The Education Discipline provides the first two years of preparation for students interested in teaching in the public schools (elementary, secondary or special education). After transferring to a four-year school and earning a bachelor's degree in the appropriate major, a student can receive certification/licensing from the state as a practicing teacher, which could lead, in addition to public school teaching, to a career in private or parochial schools. Also, the two year sequence prepares a student to become a paraprofessional/teacher's aide or a substitute teacher.
