Motorcycle Safety
MRC 1000 C03: Basic Rider Course


Aimed at beginning riders, this program introduces students to motorcycle controls, motorcycle riding, basic maneuvers, street riding and traffic skills. All levels of experience are welcome. Students must be at least 16 years of age with a class C or A license; for anyone who is 16 to 18 it is strongly recommended to call the Community Education office for the latest DMV regulations to obtain a class M endorsement. Students MUST be able to ride a bicycle. Upon successful completion students will receive an endorsement card to take to Nevada DMV to get a class M motorcycle endorsement added to a class C or A license. ATTENDANCE AT ALL SESSIONS IS MANDATORY. IF STUDENTS ARE LATE, EVEN BY TWO MINUTES, MISS A CLASS, ARE DISMISSED FROM CLASS OR DO NOT ATTEND, THEIR CLASS FEE IS FORFEITED. ANOTHER PERSON CAN NOT BE SUBSTITUTED FOR A PREVIOUSLY REGISTERED STUDENT. This is a difficult program; students may be dismissed if their lack of progression endangers themselves or fellow classmates. THE FOLLOWING CLOTHING IS REQUIRED: eye protection such as glasses, gloves with fingers (no skin exposed), long sleeved shirt or jacket, over the ankle boots and long pants. Motorcycle and helmet provided. THE FOLLOWING ARE SUGGESTED ITEMS TO HAVE WHILE OUT ON THE COURSE: lawn chair, sun screen, snacks and fluids. Notes All Motorcycle Safety classes are: A manual registration; please call or visit the Community Education office at 445-4268, or register in person at the Reynolds building, staff hallway 104C. Tuition fee is NON-REFUNDABLE. Tuition is due at time of registration - Visa, MasterCard, Discover, cash, money order, or check is accepted. Make payment out to Board of Regents. The Basic Rider Course (BRC) class is for the new rider to the advanced rider. The student must be able to ride a bicycle. You must be on time. If you are two minutes late you have lost your seat and tuition. If you need to reschedule your class date you can one time only. You must call the Community Education office at 445-4268, by noon the day before your class starts. In the BRC class Western Nevada College (WNC) provides the motorcycles and helmet. We have 125cc or 250cc Honda or Suzuki. If a student wants to bring their own helmet they can however; it must be DOT approved. The helmet will be inspected by your instructor for proper fit and DOT condition. Required Attire Friday night is casual. Saturday & Sunday class while out on the course: long pants - heavy material, long sleeve shirt or jacket, boots that cover your ankles, gloves that cover all of the skin on your hands, no fingertips, knuckles or back of hands exposed, and eye protection such as sun glasses, prescription glasses, goggles etc. Suggested items for course time: sunscreen, water, snacks and a folding chair. Student's will receive an endorsement card upon successful completion. You take this endorsement card to your local DMV to have the class "M" endorsement put on to your Nevada driver's license. This card does not belong to DMV, it is yours to keep. DMV will want to see the card; they are allowed to make a copy for their files. Check with your insurance carrier as they may offer you a discount for having attended and successfully passed a motorcycle safety class. They will want to see your endorsement card. The curriculum we teach is "Motorcycle Safety Foundation" a nationally recognized program. Out of state residents are welcome to our classes. However, please check with your local DMV to check if they will accept an endorsement from the State of Nevada. Most insurance companies will. If you are interested, WNC does offer a motorcycle maintenance class.
