Specialty Cut Flowers - Growing Your Business

This workshop includes a farm tour and classroom lecture. Students will begin the day at Smith & Smith Farms where farmers Brenda and Carole Smith and Diego Lozada will lead a tour of their cut flower fields during peak harvest season. The tour will emphasize proper harvest techniques for cut flowers and best practices for post-harvest handling to ensure long vase life.

Classroom lecture after the farm visit will include sessions on the opportunities and challenges of a local specialty cut flower business, including production and marketing aspects.

FEATURED SPEAKERS: Farmer and educator Brenda Smith is a leader in the cut flower industry and former West Regional Director for the Association of Specialty Cut Flowers. She is co-founder of Smith & Smith Farms in Dayton and has been growing cut flowers for more than 15 years.
