Mr. Burton has served as the college’s Vice President of Finance and Administration. He brings more than 30 years of administrative management experience from the private, public and government sectors.
Burton spent nine years at International Game Technology in Reno, rising from Senior Financial Analyst to Controller and Director of Finance. He also spent time in a small business environment as chief financial officer at Cowan and Associates, a veteran owned management consulting firm, headquartered in Arlington, Virginia.
His broad experience includes 20 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Navy, including serving as Naval Supply Officer at the Fallon Naval Air Station to support the “Top Gun” training school.
Earlier, he was the supply officer on the USS Ohio, the Navy’s first Trident class submarine, and an executive assistant to a Navy Admiral in the Pentagon, with responsibility for all navy logistics, ammunition and petroleum policy. While there he also supported the major logistics build-up in the Middle East during Operation Desert Storm.
Burton has served as a Legislative Liaison Officer for the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, where he represented the Navy to Congress on all major policy decisions for logistics and contract support.
Burton earned a Master’s Degree in Business from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia. There, he earned the faculty award for academic excellence, and also was named a Shermet Scholar. He also completed additional education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in conjunction with the Seminar XXI program, relating to international economics and the impact on domestic policy.
