Carol Lucey
Carol A. Lucey was appointed president of Western Nevada College in 1999. She had previously served as an academic administrator at Jamestown Community College in New York state and then at the Alfred State College of Technology, a unit of the State University of New York.

Her research experience included work as a postdoctoral fellow in the relativity group at the University of Pittsburgh in 1986-1987 and in the gravity group at Princeton University in 1979-1980. Her formal education includes a doctor of philosophy degree earned in theoretical high energy physics at Brown University in 1972; a master of arts degree earned in theoretical physics at SUNY Binghamton in 1968; and a bachelor of arts degree earned in physics and mathematics at Harpur College (SUNY) in 1965.

Dr. Lucey has completed a number of short courses on topics in physics, astronomy, teaching, and college management. These short courses were completed at various universities and national laboratories, including Brookhaven National Laboratory, Oakridge National Laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory at Greenbank, West Virginia, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at Pasadena, and Carnegie-Mellon University.

Her published articles have appeared in The Physical Review, The Journal of Mathematical Physics, General Relativity and Gravitation, The Physics Teacher Newsletter, and Academe.

Dr. Lucey has been awarded several teaching and research grants and fellowships by the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the SUNY Faculty Summer Research Program, and the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education.

She has also served as a member and officer of the board of directors for the American Conference of Academic Deans, a charter member and co-chair of the steering committee for the American Association of Physics Teachers' Program for Two-Year Colleges in the Twenty-First Century, the chair of the SUNY Chief Academic Officers Association for the Colleges of Technology, and a commissioner of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. She currently serves on the board of directors for the American Association of Colleges and Universities.
