WebCT Minimum Computer Requirements


Please note that these specifications are the minimum, and particular classes may require a more robust machine. Please check with your instructor if you have any questions.

Basic Requirements:

  • Windows 98/Me/2000/NT4/XP or MAC System 7 or higher (Note: Other operating systems may work based on the browser used, but no support will be offered.)
  • 32 Mb of RAM (64 Mb recommended)
  • 28.8 kbs Internet connection (56.6 kbs recommended)
  • A WebCT verified browser. (See WebCT Browser Tune-up for further information.)
  • A current email address (If you are currently an enrolled WNCC student and wish to establish a WNCC email address, please go to: Activate Your Email Account)

Software
Specific software for each class will vary. Please contact your instructor for further information. At the minimum, you will need access to a word processing application capable in saving files in a .txt, .rtf, or .doc format.

Plug-Ins
Plug-ins are add on applications that extend the capability of your browser. Adobe Acrobat Reader and Quicktime are examples of these. Depending upon the course, you may be required to have plug-ins installed on your machine. Listed below are sources for some of the most common applications:

Successful participation in online learning requires that you have a computer with Internet access. Minimum system requirements for your computer are listed below.

Macromedia Shockwave and Flash
These plug-ins allows you to view web documents that incorporate Shockwave and/or Flash technology.

Adobe Acrobat Reader
A must have for serious web users, this allows you to view documents in your classes that instructors have converted to this format.

RealOne Basic Player
This plug-in is commonly used for listening to audio clips that may be a part of course documents or web pages.
