WNC is guided by the principle that there shall be no difference in the treatment of persons because of race; color; national origin; religion; age; gender, including a pregnancy-related condition; gender identity or expression; sexual-orientation; protected veterans status; disability; or genetics; and that equal opportunity and access to facilities shall be available to all. Similarly, there shall be no difference in the treatment of persons who file charges of discrimination, participate in a discrimination proceeding, or otherwise oppose discrimination. Child Protection Policy
The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) is committed to maintaining a supportive and safe educational environment, one which seeks to enhance the well-being of all members of the
NSHE community, which includes creating a secure environment for children who may participate in NSHE programs or activities, or be present at NSHE facilities or events. The NSHE policies for the protection of children are intended for the protection all children who participate in NSHE events or activities for children or who are NSHE students. The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act is a federal law that requires colleges to disclose certain timely and annual information about campus crime and security policies.

Drug and Alcohol Prevention Policy
WNC is required to provide information about campus rules and regulations pertaining to alcohol and other drugs. The pamphlet, A Safe Campus, is available at each campus as a resource to students, employees and visitors. Read more about WNC’s policy regarding alcohol use on campus.
Nevada Pregnant Workers’ Fairness Act
Employees and applicants have the right to be free from discriminatory or unlawful employment practices under the Nevada Pregnant Workers’ Act and Nevada Revised Statute 613.335. As such, the College will provide reasonable accommodation to a female employee or applicant for employment upon request of the employee or applicant for a condition relating to pregnancy or childbirth, or a related medical condition, unless such accommodation would cause undue hardship to the College. Sexual Harassment Policy
WNC, as part of the NSHE, is committed to providing a place of work and learning free from harassment, intimidation or insult. It is the policy of WNC that the sexual harassment of students, employees, and users of WNC facilities is unacceptable and prohibited.
The NSHE Policy Against Sexual Harassment and Complaint Procedure, Title 4, Chapter 8, Section 13, is incorporated into the Board of Regents Handbook. The policy can also be reviewed in the WNC online catalog. Read the Board of Regents policy on Sexual Harassment.
A website has been created by the Obama Administration to provide resources to those affected by sexual assault. NotAlone.gov provides information for students, schools, and anyone interested in finding resources on how to respond to and prevent sexual assault on college and university campuses and in our schools.

The Student Right to Know and Campus Security Act requires that WNC comply with the provisions and updates in disclosing the graduation rate of certificate or degree-seeking students. This information is available to current and prospective students prior to enrolling or entering into any financial obligation. WNC graduation completion rates are available from Institutional Research and Effectiveness on the Carson City campus.

Title IX Compliance
Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. To ensure compliance with Title IX and other federal and state civil rights laws, the college has developed policies that prohibit sex discrimination, which includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, and sexual violence by employees, students, or third parties. Inquiries concerning the application of Title IX and/or questions as to how to file a complaint of sex discrimination may be referred to WNC’s Title IX Coordinator Mark Ghan at (775) 445-4231 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
