In the fall of 2003, Nevada began participating in the National Forum on College Level-Learning, a project funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts with the support of the National Center for Education Management Systems (NCHEMS). The national project is designed to gather and analyze data from a variety of sources on student learning. The project is intended to lead to strategies for the assessment of the intellectual abilities of states' college graduates. The project is headed by Dr. Margaret Miller, a noted professor of education in the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education.
A sample1 of WNC students took the ACT WorkKeys assessment tool, which includes the areas of applied mathematics, reading for information, locating information, and writing. Students were also asked about their college learning experience by completing the CCSSE (Community College Survey of Student Engagement).
A summary of results is included below:
WNC 2003 CCSSE Results Summary (.pdf)
WNC Frequencies: Spreadsheet containing all questions and student responses. It also compares WNC student responses to the student responses of other NFCL participating colleges.
WNC Means: Spreadsheet containing all questions and the mean of student responses. It also compares WNC student response means to the student response means of other NFCL participating colleges.
1 Sample included WNC students enrolled in fall 2003 who had completed 30 or more credits. Students who completed more than 30 credit hours score consistently higher than other students who took the CCSSE and Workkeys.
