Survey Guide

Survey Submission Procedures
(SPIFE Sub-committee on Research)

WNC has implemented a new College Policy on Research (link to this policy) that governs survey creation and implementation within the college. All proposed survey projects must be approved by the SPIFE sub-committee on Research (see below for a list of exempt categories). To view the policy in its entirety, please go to: same link here.

To gain approval for a survey, please fill out the Survey Submission form below. The completed form will be sent to the members of the SPIFE Sub-committee on Research, who will then complete the review and approval process within 14 days.* Once the committee approves the request, it will be forwarded to the Office of Institutional Research for survey methodology and implementation review.

The SPIFE Research Sub-committee's Responsibilities

The committee will review your request and either request more information, approve, or deny the request within 14 business days of its receipt.

Office of Institutional Research's Responsibilities

The Office of Institutional Research, with the aide of college experts, will provide technical assistance on survey design, administration, and/or analysis to units and individuals who are planning and/or conducting surveys for the purpose of evaluating University functions/services/programs once a survey project has been approved by the SPIFE sub-committee on Research.

The Office of Institutional Research will provide technical assistance on survey analysis and data files to those same units/individuals upon request.

Survey software and equipment available in the Office of Institutional Research is for the purpose of conducting college-wide research and assessment activities, such as student and alumni surveys and special studies such as those related to strategic planning, program review and assessment activities.

Institutional Research will consider requests for assistance with special, one-time surveys conducted by individual units as time and equipment availability permits. Assistance with external projects (e.g., grant-related projects) conducted by WNC faculty and staff will also be considered, but these may require reimbursement for associated staff time, supplies, and equipment.

The Office of Institutional Research reserves the right to deny a survey request if office resources are not available.
