WNC faculty, staff and students may publish their own personal Web pages using complimentary Web space provided by NSHE System Computing Services. Web space is provided when you activate your WNC e-mail account.
Basic Steps to create a personal Web page:
Open a WNC e-mail account
If you do not yet have a WNC e-mail account and you are a WNC student or employee you may create an account using SWAMI.
Create your Web pages
There are numerous tools for creating and editing Web pages. In general, Web authoring software can be grouped into two categories: HTML code editors and Graphical Web design programs. HTML code editors range from simple text editors like NotePad to more complex editors with syntax highlighting and code verification features. Graphical Web design programs, such as FrontPage or Dreamweaver, allow you to edit your web pages using a WYSIWYG (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) interface and often require little or no knowledge of the underlying HTML code. An alternative strategy is to use a word processing program like Microsoft Word to convert a basic word document to HTML, however this technique is generally a last resort and doesn't scale well for sites with images or multiple web pages.
WNC doesn't provide technical support for personal Web page creation, however the college does offer a number of classes related to Web publishing for WNC students and staff. In addition, WNC's Web Education Coordinator, Leonard Mackey, offers periodic workshops for WNC faculty who wish to publish instructional pages on the Web. For more informaton, view the Web Workshop Schedule, or e-mail Leonard Mackey at lmackey@wnc.edu.

Publish your web pages
There are a number of ways to publish your pages; a simple method is FTP (File Transfer Protocol). If you do not have an FTP program on your computer you can download a free copy of WS_FTP LE (WNC faculty and staff should contact Computing Services to request installation of this program).
Using WS_FTP LE on a Windows computer.
1. Begin by going to Start > Programs > WS_FTP LE.
2. If you don't see the "Session Properties" dialog, select "Connect."
3. Click on the "New" button near the top-right.
4. "Profile Name" - enter a name of your choosing.
5. "Host Name/Address" - enter: fallon.scsr.nevada.edu.
6. "User ID" and "Password" - enter your e-mail name and password.
7. Click "OK" to open an FTP connection.
8. Once connected, the left window pane will show folders and files on your local PC, and the right pane will show folders and files on the Web server. - Drag and drop your Web files from your local PC to the "public_html" folder on the server.
Note: files must be placed within the "public_html" folder in order to show up on the Web.
--For more detailed information, please see the WS_FTP LE Tutorial.
View your web pages
View your pages online by opening a Web browser, such as IE or Netscape, and typing the following URL in the address bar: www.wnc.edu/~username/pagename.html
For example, if your WNC e-mail is jsmith@wnc.edu and your page is called aboutme.html, you would view your home page by typing: http://www.wnc.edu/~jsmith/aboutme.html. Note: If you name your homepage index.html or index.htm, you may access the page simply by typing: www.wnc.edu/~jsmith (no page name required).
Optional: Link your page to the WNC site
WNC faculty and staff only: If you have created an instructional page that you would like to have linked to the Faculty Web Pages section of the WNC web site, please contact the WNC Webmaster at webmaster@wnc.edu.
WNC Web pages are hosted by NSHE System Computing Services (SCS).
