Businesses and private citizens can learn how to prepare for the unthinkable in Weapons of Mass Destruction, a class being offered at Western Nevada Community College Fallon.
The instructor for the class is Dennis Cox, one of 42 people in the country currently certified to provide this kind of training.
"This course serves as a strategy to small business and industry, as well as private citizens, to assist in preparing and protecting themselves in the event of a disaster or terrorist activity," says Cox. "Individual preparedness is critical to survival as well as an important component in our nation's tactic for homeland security."
A free introductory class is on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m.-noon. The full 16-hour class, which costs $220, is on Wednesday-Thursday, Sept. 8-9, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Both classes will be in the Virgil Getto Hall on the Fallon campus.
Objectives of the class are to identify a critical event to their facility; describe their critical infrastructure; define a disaster event; identify internal and external facility resources; explain vulnerability analysis; discuss incident command or management function within their facility; conduct vulnerability analysis; and explain the need for evacuation checklists and emergency plans for both home and work.
